The Impact of Reality
At Reality we constantly assess the value of what we do. Here are some of our findings for the 2010 activities:
-
100% of young people have learned a new skill and have a certificate for this, excluding the very few who left camp early
-
100% of young people have a certificate for “soft skills”, such as problem solving, supporting others – again, excluding the very small number who left camp early
-
89% of young people’s feedback at home visits, several weeks after camp, shows they feel more confident
-
100% of families/carers who responded, noted a positive change. 94% of parents/carers felt that young people were more positive, and 62% said that they were getting on better at school
-
90% of referring social workers felt that Reality’s provision was a moderate to strong fit with the Child Plan. They listed the biggest improvement as a more positive attitude, with improved relationships close behind.
-
90% of young people stated that they would like to come to further activities with Reality.
An example:
In 2010 we trained 6 young people who had themselves been referred to Reality by their social workers/school, to become junior leaders. Five of them have now helped at their first weekend and had a fabulous time supporting other young people who have faced similar difficulties in their lives. One has been offered the opportunity to help at an outdoor pursuits centre, as work experience.
